What is Ozone?
Ozone, a colorless gas, is also called “Super Active Oxygen”. It is a molecule consisting three oxygen atoms (O3), and is the safest and second most powerful oxidant known to man Ozone is formed naturally by the Ultra-Violet Rays of the sun and by lightening; the formed layers protects us from the harmful part of the UV rays in the upper atmosphere. As an oxidant, it neutralizes contaiminants or chemically alters them so that they are no longer toxic. That’s why air is cleaner and fresher after the storm. Water also tastes better after ozone treatment. It is truly nature’s Green Cleaner for human beings when it comes to disinfections.
How does it work?
Once generated, Ozone has a very short life span (about 20min.), because one oxygen atom is very eager to break away from the semi-unstable bond and reacts with any oxidizable compound (organic or inorganic) that it comes in contact with. The atom breaks the cell membranes of bacteria and protein shells fo viruses, directly destroying its RNA and DNA. As a result, the particle will no longer be toxic and will no longer be able to reproduce if it is biological.When the single oxygen molecule oxidizes the particle, it is also destroyed; leaving behind O2 (pure oxygen).
Since Ozone has a very short “active” lifespan, it can’t be bottled up in either gas or liquid to market to the public. It has to be generated on site to do the job.
